2 Timothy 2:15 "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth."(NAS)
A definitive "road marker" for today's Christian is the need for some sound and accurate Biblical focus in relation to the way he/she leads their life. Albert Mohler refers to the need for sound theological focus on the part of the church because after all, there are doctrinal assertions! This sense seems to be lost to a large degree in today's consumer Christian. But for the most part, having no focus as to the things that simply are not challengeable from a "faith" standpoint – has dire consequences for the rest of our life even to the minutest of decisions we make daily.
Is anyone really going to hell? Was Jesus born of a virgin? Is sex outside of marriage or homosexuality sinful? Do you even need to access repentance and forgiveness regularly? Our approach to these issues should not be adopted by what pattern the world establishes in any given season or by an overreaction to the stodginess and "phariseeism" we may have experienced in our religious upbringing. On the contrary, the only hope we possess in establishing a safe roadway for life is by soundly approaching our life's decisions with biblical clarity and with Christ's love. The Bible is clear – crystal clear on such subjects as well as others. So we should be clear as well. To adopt any position merely because it suits the moment or our own addictive behavior – is tantamount to rolling down a road to nowhere! On that the Bible speaks as well: "Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth."(Eph. 4:14 TLB) Let's endeavor to keep our Biblical Focus clear!
